Professor Klaas Knot new top-ranking offical at Ministry of Finance

As of 15 August 2009, professor Klaas Knot is appointed as director Financial Markets at the Ministry of Finances. He is also named deputy Thesaurier-General. Next to his position at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Knot is also division director at De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB).

Born in Bedum, Knot (42) will be the successor of Bernard ter Haar who will become top-ranking executive at the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment. Klaas Knot studied economics at the University of Groningen. After finishing his study in 1991, he received his PhD four years later. He was named professor in 2007. Currently professor Knot is parttime professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business and holds the chair of Monetary and Banking Institutions.

In his position as division director Supervision Policy at DNB professor Klaas Knot is responsible for developing prudent supervision standards and rules and policy for banks, insurers and pension funds. Previously he worked in several functions at De Nederlandsche Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington.
