Anthea van Os (24), FEB student of the Teacher Training programme in Economics and Business, has won the first prize in a national Open University competition, the Henk Peer prize for innovation in economic secondary education.
Van Os explained the various steps in a production chain – from sheep farmer to consumer – by converting them into a paper cube that students have to put together, thus addressing difficult concepts such as differentiation and parallellisation.
Van Os is currently teacher in training at CSG Liudger in Drachten. After her graduation at the RUG, she plans to teach in New Zealand for a year. She likes to fill her lessons with innovative methods that make the subject of economics appealing to and connect closely with the students. Van Os won in the category ‘students’, in which three persons had been selected for the final.
