Living expenses rise by 218 euros due to higher energy costs and national taxes

Date:March 02, 2009

The living expenses for owner-occupiers will this year rise by 218 euros on average, due to higher energy expenses, conveyance tax and the added tax for home-owners. These are the results of the Living Expenses Monitor 2009, drawn up by the Centre for Research on Local Government Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen.

The average home-owner will this year see his living expenses rise by 4,529 euros, in addition to his mortgage payments. That is 15 percent of the average income after tax. It is therefore not surprising that the rise in living expenses draws so much attention. The COELO Living Expenses Monitor 2009 provides an overview.
