Course description

Your first year of E&BE will provide you with broad knowledge of general economics and business economics, focusing on subjects such as micro and macro economics. Many courses are internationally oriented and are based on practical case studies. Through various teaching methods you will learn skills such as giving presentations, building an argument and debating. After the first year you can choose one of two specializations: Economics or International Economics & Business. Those studying IE&B will learn another foreign language in addition to English, and are obligated  to spend a period of six months abroad at a foreign partner university. For those who choose Economics, the second year entails courses on business economics and also provides further insight in micro and macro economics and public finances. After finishing the Bachelor you will have access to a number of corresponding Master's programmes.

Prospects

IE&B gives you the credentials to work at one of the great multinationals, or at an international governmental organization such as the IMF, the Worldbank or the EU. Small and medium enterprises are also increasingly looking for people who know how the economy functions on an international level. Economists are everywhere: in government jobs, banks, retirement companies, education, or working as entrepeneurs. They know how a business works and possess knowledge of consumer and producer behaviour (micro economics) and of national and international economics (macro economics).
