The University Committee for Academic Practice is an independent advisory committee of the Board of the University.
The Committee
The committee is composed of members from the 9 RUG faculties.
The student- and PhD student-members of the UCW are being appointed by the Board of the University on nomination of the nominationadvise-committee. The UCW consists of 2 members that are Masterstudents, and 2 members that are PhD students and in such a way that of those four members: 1 comes from the alpha-faculties (Theology and Religious Studies; Philosophy; Arts); 1 comes from Mathematics and Natural Sciences; 1 comes from the gamma-faculties (Management & Organization; Law; Spatial Sciences; Behavioral and Social Sciences); 1 comes from the Medical Sciences
The Rector Magnificus attends all committee meetings as a representative of the Board of the University.
The committee is supported by a secretary from the Department of Academic Matters (AZ) of the Central University Office.
Tasks
The committee advises the Board of the University on matters concerning academic practice within the RUG, both on request and independently.
This includes:

Advice based on research visitations performed and reported by the VSNU.

Advice based on self-analyses for research visitation purposes.

Advice regarding assessment and prioritizing of candidates for national scholarship programmes such as the Vernieuwingsimpuls and ASPASIA.

Advice regarding the re-accreditation applications of research schools.

Advice regarding policy, for example concerning the RUG research memorandum and development plan and the academic personnel policy.

Advice regarding the distribution of research grants from the central budget, for example for ‘Parelsubsidies’ and the ‘Ubbo Emmius’ programme.
