Health, Safety & Environment Service of the University of Groningen

The Health, Safety & Environment Service (AMD) of the University of Groningen offers advice and support to the Board of the University and the local management of the administrative units in the implementation of policy with regard to working conditions, the environment and radiation as well as compliance with the legal obligations involved in these fields. In addition, it provides information and advice to the representative bodies concerned. The AMD supports the management and maintenance of the health, safety and environmental system of the University, in close consultation and cooperation with the local health, safety and environmental coordinators and work groups.

Policy cycle

The University health, safety and environmental system consists of a health, safety and environmental policy cycle:

The structure supporting this system consists of:

  • Mandates for the faculties/units
  • Health, safety and environment coordinators per faculty/service
  • Health, safety and environment work groups
  • Central health, safety and environment service to support the various branches.

The consultative bodies also play an important role in this process – they must approve the policy plans in the field of health, safety and environmental matters and monitor the implementation of these plans.

Core activities

In the field of working conditions, the Health, Safety and Environment Service offers at least the core activities stated in the Working Conditions Act:

  • Support with regard to risk inventory and evaluation
  • Support in the event of sick leave
  • Working Conditions Consultation Hour (see Open consultation hour)
  • Periodic occupational health examinations

The AMD employs a variety of experts in the fields of safety, radiation protection, occupational hygiene, the environment, occupational health, work and organization and company nursing. You will find an overview of all the AMD’s products and services in various fields of interest on the AMD main page.
