Opening of the academic year for international students
|
International cooperation
Teaching and research cannot take place without international contacts. Since it was founded in 1614, the
University
of
Groningen
has been strongly internationally orientated
.
Cooperating with developing countries
is an important part of this. The University has had good contacts with sister institutions in such countries for decades.

The Eric Bleumink Fund
Meetings between scientists from various countries and cultures are advantageous to all parties. It can lead to a close and permanent scientific network and form the basis for social and economic development.
Taking this thought as a starting point, in 2000 the Eric Bleumink Fund was created, on the occasion of the retirement of Prof. Eric Bleumink as chairman of the Board of the University of Groningen.
Talent
The Fund awards several types of scholarships to talented students, researchers and university staff from the developing world. Such scholarships mean that they can follow further education partly in
Groningen
and partly in their own country.

Donations
Every year there are dozens of applications for scholarships. Depending on the amount of donations, we can award between three and six per year. In coming years, with your help, we hope to be able to increase that number.
Our income depends primarily on gifts from alumni, students, staff and contacts of the university. All the money goes towards the scholarships. Other costs, including overheads, are paid by the University of Groningen.
Thirthy-five Euros
A scholarship from the Eric Bleumink Fund is tailored to the costs of the degree programme, the journey, the study material and living and accommodation costs. The amounts are based on the general rules of the Netherlands Fellowship Programme and satisfy both national and international requirements.
For about EUR 35 we can cover the living costs and study costs for a student for one day.
The Eric Bleumink Fund is managed by the Stichting Ubbo Emmius Fonds. This foundation was established by the RUG to improve relations between the university and society at large and to raise funds for special initiatives.
