After logging in I immediately get an error telling me I've been logged out again.

This error is normally caused by a problem with your cookies or offline files. Clean them up as follows:

Look at the menu bar of Internet explorer and click on Tools -> internet options -> General tab. Click on delete cookies and next on delete files. After clicking delete files you will be prompted to delete all offline content. Confirm you want to delete all offline content.
