The Werkgroep Italië Studies

The Werkgroep Italië Studies (WIS) was founded in 1985 as the association of academics in the Netherlands and Flanders engaged in the study of Italy. The association aims to stimulate and coordinate research and teaching in the Low Countries in the fields of Italian language and literature, history, archaeology and art. In addition, WIS seeks to highlight outstanding and exceptional achievements in these areas. For this reason, it awards three prizes: the Research Prize, the Thesis Prize and the Nella Voss-Del Mar Translation Prize.

WIS also publishes the academic journal Incontri. This journal features contributions in the fields of Italian language and literature, history, art history and archaeology.
