DataverseNL

Providing access to research data on the researchers’ terms

DataverseNL is a a high-quality and trustworthy data repository provided by several participating Dutch institutions, among which the DCC and DANS. This online service enables researchers to archive and publish a wide variety of academic data (and software) in an online environment, safely and sustainably. It is an open source initiative launched by Harvard University.

Access to data on the researchers’ terms

DataverseNL enables researchers to share data with other academics or interested parties. It is up to the researchers to decide who is entitled access to which dataset - taking into account policies by the university and research institutes, cooperation during research, privacy, IP-interests and embargo’s.
DataverseNL is not suitable for highly sensitive data.

Visibility and academic credit

DataverseNL provides tools to enable scholarly data citations to make it easier for researchers to publish their data and get credit as well as recognition for their work. Once a dataset is deposited in DataverseNL, it receives a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI) which persistently links to your data and enables you to share and cite your dataset. The DOI can for instance be included in a Data Availability Statement that accompanies the published article. There is evidence that this leads to more citations.

The Pure team of the UG Library will furthermore ensure that your dataset is made 'findable' in the UG’s research information system and displayed on the UG’s Research Portal.

Using DataverseNL for the first time

If you want to archive and publish your data for the first time in DataverseNL, you can contact the DCC. DataverseNL-experts of the DCC will provide you with more information and provide you with an empty template to which you can upload the data files and other supporting documents yourself. If you prefer this, the DCC can also do that for you.

Experts from the DCC and/or an institutional data manager will perform a quality check on metadata and support documents before publication of your data is finalized.
