What is Science LinX?

Wat is Science LinX?

Science LinX is the ‘red carpet’ for school pupils and prospective students who are interested in studying at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FWN) of the University of Groningen. The Science LinX website and exhibition use a different approach to reveal the people behind our research: with games, installations, visualizations, workshops and debates about natural science and technology!

With its extensive website and the interactive displays in the foyer of FWN’s new Faculty building, the Bernoulliborg, Science LinX provides an impression of current research at the Faculty, introduces FWN’s degree programmes and shows what the Faculty’s graduates get up to after completing their degree programmes. The key words are fun, passion, fascination and cooperation. At Science LinX you will meet real science and real scientists!

Science LinX Physical
Science LinX Physical can offer up to two school classes per day an encounter with mathematics and natural science. On platforms next to the stairs they will find interactive installations and inviting displays that encourage the pupils to take part and discover, think and learn.

You can also find Science LinX in the building’s corridors and walkways in the form of regularly changing displays. In our studio classroom on the first floor, the ‘activity room’, we receive school classes, give lectures, workshops and ‘dry’ practicals and hold debates. But there is a lot more to Science LinX Physical: you can even study the infiniteness of our solar system in our observatory... at Science LinX you can see the invisible.

Science LinX Virtual
The Science LinX website supplements and expands on the scientific themes presented in the exhibition. Games, simulations and visualizations introduce science clearly, informally and interactively.

The forum and newsletter associated with the website are the ideal places for connecting with the site’s users: school pupils, secondary school teachers and advisors, researchers, study advisors and FWN students.

The website is simultaneously the standard portal for all the Faculty’s affiliated activities, such as the RUG Discovery, the Science Support Desk and science competitions.

Finally, the Science LinX website is where the Faculty’s students, postgraduates and researchers explain why science is their world.

Science LinX reveals the people behind the research.
