Knowledge café - The future of the countryside

When? Thursday May 16, 8 - 10 p.m.
Where? Forum Groningen Nieuwe Markt 1

Tickets: €4,- / €2,- with SG card / free for students

What will the Groningen countryside look like fifty years from now? Will there be new villages? Will there be windmills and data centers as far as you can see? Will Groningen have become a "super city"? The landscape around us is changing at lightning speed. It's time to think about what we want the landscape to look like, before it's too late. Or is it actually already too late? And in what way are all interests: history, local culture and needs represented in it? How do we create a connective new landscape?

In this special edition of the Knowledge Café, The Futurists explore the future of the countryside together with planologist Zef Hemel. The Futurists is a theatrical talk show, in which theater makers and scientists explore the future. A unique combination of interview and theater, in which musicians and writers translate the vision of a high-profile guest into a performance in one day. You can't get fresher!

This is a special edition of the Knowledge Café in honor of the 410th anniversary of the University of Groningen. Futurists emerged from a collaboration between Studium Generale Utrecht and NUT. For this 'On Tour' edition, NUT is collaborating with Studium Generale Groningen.

O-swap

When? Friday May 17, 3 - 7 p.m.
Where? USVA Theater en Café - Munnekeholm 10

USVA and the Lustrum bureau of the UG are 'making connections' with this special edition. Swap, donate or rework your clothes at the pre-event of the 410th anniversary of the University of Groningen.

Are there items in your wardrobe you don’t wear anymore? Come and trade them for something new! Or do you have items that need a bit of love? We have an upcycle expert available to teach you how to fix your clothes. You can also donate clothes to a good cause.

How do you participate?
If you want to participate in the swap, please bring your clothes to one of the drop-off points before the event. Make sure that the items are clean and undamaged. For every item that you hand in, you'll receive a ticket that you can use at the event to "buy" an item. You can hand in as many items as you want but you'll receive a maximum of 10 tickets.

Hand in your clothing at one of the drop off points below:

- Monday May 13, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Minerva (Gedempte Zuiderdiep 158)

Cinquecento Medusae

When? Opening on Friday 17 May, at 3:00 p.m.
Where? Lobby of the University Library

An invasion of jellyfish in the University Library

On the occasion of the 410th anniversary of the University of Groningen, the Green Office presents Cinquecento Medusae, an art installation by the Swiss artist Rosanna Baledda. Immerse yourself in an invasion of jellyfish and open your perspective to a world heavily influenced by climate change.

Jellyfish have been part of our marine ecosystems for 500 million years, but now they seem ready to take over completely. Global warming and pollution have increased their numbers dramatically. What does this mean for our ecosystems?

Enjoy the artistic experience, but also learn more about current scientific insights from our own UG researchers!

The installation will be on display from 21 May in the lobby of the University Library. The opening will take place on Friday 17 May, at 3:00 PM. Anyone interested is free to join!
