About library instructions at the RUG

Most of the libraries of the University of Groningen provide instruction in using library facilities for students, staff and other users, as well as courses and training in information skills. These vary from short library tours to detailed verbal or written instructions and computer-assisted training.

Most of this information and training is provided in the context of study programmes. Certain components are generally available online, and can be accessed via this web site or, for students and staff with a NESTOR account, via the library modules offered by the libraries at Nestor. The menu below contains information about library instruction, courses and training, as well as links to the general online courses.

In the left-hand menu, under General Instruction, you can find general instructions and information-skills courses that are not geared to a specific discipline.

Information on training offered by individual libraries can be found under Local Instruction. You can then select the relevant subject-oriented training for a specific library, and the details of the relevant contact person will appear, for example.

There is also a link to the Manuals that are used in the libraries. These vary from manuals on how to use the Catalogue, to user manuals for electronic databases.

The Literature Guides provide an overview of the most important and frequently used (bibliographical) sources in each subject area.

For each discipline, a subject specialist is available who can advise students and researchers in their search for subject specific information.
