Borrowing

To borrow books and journals you first have to locate them in the catalogue. You also need a library card.

Most of the University's books and journals are located in the University Library's closed stacks. In order to borrow these publications, you must first locate them in the Catalogue and then request them via the catalogue. In most cases you can obtain the publication from the Lending Department (Uitleenbureau) on presentation of your library card.

Many publications are located in open access in reading rooms and faculty libraries. You can find the books on the shelves and check them out at the lending desk of that reading room or faculty library on presentation of your library card or you can register the books yourself with the self checkout system on the 3rd floor of the University Library.

Books or journals which are on loan can be reserved via the catalogue. You will be notified when the item is available.

Borrowed books can be handed in at any University of Groningen library!

University staff can request books from other RUG-libraries free of charge. These books are then sent to the staff member's own library. To do this, first locate the item in the catalogue of the RU Groningen, then press the IBL request button which will take you to Picarta. You can then request it.
