Catalogues and databases at the University of Groningen (RUG) libraries

The RUG Catalogue contains information about the collections of the University of Groningen’s libraries. This catalogue is useful if you want to know where a certain publication is located.

PiCarta contains the titles of books and articles held by Dutch libraries. It also contains references to academic information on the Internet. If you are not a staff member or student at the RUG and you want to log in with your ILL account, please go to the OCLC-PICA homepage and click ‘Logon links’.

PurpleSearch is a search engine that trawls through 100 academic literature databases at once. Thanks to its clever search techniques, PurpleSearch can display search results from the most relevant databases for your subject.

PurpleSearch is a handy tool for those just orientating themselves in a subject – they don’t have to make immediate use of the extensive search options of the various literature databases.

RUG Combine is a new service of the joint libraries of the RUG. RUG Combine offers access to scientific and subject-specific literature in the form of a wide spectrum of electronic bibliographical databases, catalogues, reference works, source and text material and electronic journals. Further information

RUG theses and internal resources contains an overview of the various thesis catalogues and internal documentation resources of the RUG.

Under national and international catalogues you will find the catalogues of libraries associated with the RUG and libraries in the north of the Netherlands, as well as popular national and international catalogues.

Electronic files include bibliographic databases, encyclopaedias on CD-ROM, online reference works, etc. The accessibility of each file is indicated (some files are only accessible from certain workstations or within a certain part of the RUG network).

The literature guide per subject indicates the most frequently used files for the subject concerned.

The electronic journals button provides access to over ten thousand periodicals to which the RUG libraries subscribe.

e-Books are a new medium: of course, the Library has obtained a numer of these already.

An overview of the university’s electronic publications and repositories can be found under electronic publications.
