The Center of Expertise Social Sciences, Health & Wellbeing and Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health co-organize this event to explore opportunities in Social Science Research concerning health, wellbeing, and public health, while delving into the realm of Citizen Science. We aim to investigate how science can relate to citizens, inform them, and actively involve them in the research process.
Join us for an afternoon delving into the world of Citizen Science. Discover the essence of this method, its applications, and its potential impact. Our speakers, Margaret Gold from the Citizen Science Lab at Leiden University and Niels Alberts , Coordinator of the Bèta Science Shop and CurioUs , will share insights into the diverse approaches and recent advancements in Citizen Science, with a focus on its relevance in social sciences research.
Following their presentations, we'll hear compelling examples from researchers at applied universities. Engage in an interactive workshop where we'll collaborate in groups to craft research questions suitable for Citizen Science and explore appropriate methodologies.
The afternoon will culminate in a dynamic plenary debate, addressing emerging topics, workshop-generated examples, funding challenges, and pre-submitted inquiries. We'll wrap up with a networking session over drinks, discussions on potential collaborations and sparking ideas among like-minded individuals.
The event is open to all social sciences researchers who are curious and interested in whether and how this method can be applied in our field. Specific focus of the afternoon is how to collect real life data together with citizens to answer questions regarding human behaviour. With the central question: How can we gain insight into human behaviour in a scientifically sound manner and together with civilians.
