- Yingruo Wang (2013 - 2018, completed) Grassroots NGOs and environmental governance in China: Institutional opportunities and constraints, joint supervision with Prof. Joost Herman (Globalisation Studies Groningen).
- Luis Huamusse (2017 - present) Gas projects in Mozambique: opportunity for social development, joint supervision with Prof. Frank Vanclay.
- Bei Tian (2018 - present) Social impact assessment and social resilience in vulnerable tourism areas in China, joint supervision with Prof. Frank Vanclay.
From 2007 to 2017, Dr. Zhao’s teaching experiences were focused on coordinating and lecturing in the MA East Asian Studies, Bachelors Development Studies and the annual Africa, China and Europe Intensive Program in Development Studies (ACE) in Tanzania and China. He supervised Masters and Bachelors research projects and theses on topics related to environmental governance and development issues in China and China-Africa-EU development relations. He also gave invited guest lectures at different faculties of the university and other Dutch universities.
From 2018 to present, Dr. Zhao's teaching has focused on Migration & Development, Bachelors Project and Introduction to Academic Research courses, as well as supervision of Masters thesis.
