dr. Y. van den Hurk, MSc

My research is primairily concerned with the exploitation of cetaceans (whales, dolphins, and porpoises) in the past. My projects focus especially on the identification of zooarchaeological remains to the species level using morphological and osteometric analysis. I am working on several small projects at the moment:
- The demish of the Atlantic population of the grey whale (Eschrichtius robustus)
- Exploitation of cetaceans in Medieval the Netherlands and Flanders - Funded by the Association for Environmental Archaeology (AEA)
- Dolphin exploitation in the Late Neolithic and Bronze Age Arabian Sea - Funded by Stichting Nederlands Museum voor Anthropologie en Praehistorie (SNMAP)
- Whaling in Iron age to Medieval Scotland - Funded by the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland
