S.I. (Sotirios) Lekkas, PhD

Sotirios-Ioannis Lekkas is a lecturer in public international law and postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Transboundary Legal Studies of the University of Groningen for the project on ‘The Rules of Interpretation of Customary International Law’ (TRICI-Law). Sotirios’s research for the project focuses on the content and evolution of rules of interpretation in international law.
Prior to this position, Sotirios worked as a judicial fellow at the International Court of Justice and taught public international law for the Faculty of Law of the University of Oxford. He has also worked as a researcher for the University of Athens and the British Institute of International and Comparative Law.
Sotirios holds a DPhil in Law from the University of Oxford. His thesis focused on issues of state responsibility and international criminal law and received the Tenekides Prize 2019-22 by the Hellenic Society of International Law and International Relations. He has studied law in Athens and London (UCL), where he was awarded the Schwarzenberger Prize in International Law by the University of London. He is a member of the Bar in Athens, Greece.
