My name is Robin Neef and I am a PhD researcher in infrastructure planning at the Department of Spatial Planning and Environment of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences at the University of Groningen. I completed my Research Master Spatial Sciences (2018) from the University of Groningen with a focus on integration in infrastructure planning.
In my PhD research “Responsive Infrastructure through Responsive Institutions” (RITRI, started March 2018), funded by the NWO division Social Sciences and knowledge centre Next Generation Infrastructures, I study the issue of major infrastructure renewal. An aging, deteriorated infrastructure stock challenges infrastructure administrators such as Rijkswaterstaat, ProRail, Schiphol, Sea Port Rotterdam and Alliander in their core task to guarantee the well-functioning of infrastructure networks in themselves and as a network of networks now and in the far future. The smart combination of infrastructure administrators’ investments offers opportunities to increase the responsiveness of infrastructure networks. This requires alignment between infrastructure administrators. Through joint scenario building, institutional analysis, stress-testing and serious gaming, this research intends to provide insight into the institutional adaptations that are required to seize these opportunities.
