My research interests lie in understanding the role of (social) media in shaping consumer culture. Therefore, I focus on the role of (social) media companies, algorithms and influencers in shaping both our understanding of the world and our consumption practices.
Relatedly, I am also interested in how these actors and institutions affect consumer welfare and sustainability. I have then studied topics such as online privacy, particularly in the aftermath of the Cambridge Analytica scandal. I am also interested in how these actors affect consumers' mental and physical wellbeing. Therefore, I have also investigated trends such as healthy eating (including veganism), sustainable consumption, and social media addiction.
