Katherine Stroebe is professor of "the Social Psychology of Justice and Resilience" at the social psychology department of the University of Groningen. She also is head of a large-scale research project looking into the psychosocial impact of man-made earthquakes due to gas extraction in Groningen. This project is commissioned by the National Coordinator Groningen (2016-2020, in collaboration with Tom Postmes, UG) and by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (2021-2022, in collaboration with Michel Dückers, Nivel, ArqImpac, UG). Part of the project involves disseminating research for representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations (e.g. national and local governments, safety region, municipal health services), the media and inhabitants in the region via presentations, discussions and reports (see www.groningsperspectief.nl for reports). Katherine is also director of the expertise centre Social Sciences, Health and Wellbeing of the BSS faculty (https://www.rug.nl/gmw/expertise-centre-social-sciences-health-and-well-being/). In addition, she is one of the coordinators within the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health (https://www.rug.nl/aletta/about-us/organisation/our-aletta-researchers). Before moving to Groningen, Katherine completed her PhD at Leiden University under the supervision of Prof. Naomi Ellemers and Prof. Manuela Barreto.
