prof. dr. J.W. Groothoff
In 1986 Johan W. Groothoff graduated in Medical Sociology at the University of Groningen with his dissertation about the indicators of work disability, mortality and healthcare, titled "Health status of the working population" . After his studies he started working at the Department of Social Medicine of the University of Groningen, became consecutively university teacher, assistant professor and full professor of Work and Health (Chronic Diseases and Work Disability) in 2001.
Next to teaching Johan Groothoff is a researcher in the broad area of occupational health, public health and rehabilitation, supervising a total of some 30 PhD students in this field.
Internationally he works with universities in Central Europe and Indonesia. Education and research there mainly focuses on the consequences of (chronic) health problems for the work situation. Johan Groothoff is also engaged in refresher courses and specialization courses for corporate physicians and insurance physicians.
