dr. J.S. (Joanna) Gusc

Assistant Professor

Joanna (08.07.1975, Poznan, Poland) studied Business Administration at the Institute of Law and Business Administration at the Adam Mickiewicz University PoznaƄ, Poland. She graduated in 1999. Her MSc thesis is entitled: "Cultural Constraints in Management Theories".

In 2001, having worked for a few years in management positions, she entered a Ph.D research programme at the Management Studies group of the Wageningen Unversity. During her Ph.D. research, Joanna also gave lectures in the Wageningen MSc programme in a course entitled “Innovation in the international markets”, and in international MBA programmes in both Wageningen and Prague. Further, she supervised several MSc theses on the management control and governance aspects in multinational enterprises.

At the Wageningen University Joanna also co-ordinated the development of an International MBA and chaired the Ph.D. Council at the Mansholt Graduate School for Social Sciences for two years.

Since February 2007, Joanna has been an assistant professor at the Department of Accounting at the Faculty of Economics and Business with the University of Groningen. She took her doctor's degree in 2008. Her research focusses on international intra-firm and inter-firm relationships.

Her research focuses on transformation towards sustainable accounting models, circular economy and sustainable education with the impact and in collaboration with social stakeholders.

Joanna is a member of several initiatives in the field of sustainability such as NBA Circular Accounting, Circular Friesland, Expedition Ware Winst Noord, Economy for Common Good.

In 2019/20 she chaired the Sustainability Sounding Board at Green Office @ University of Groningen.

Within the University of Groningen, she is involved in several projects in the field of sustainability. She organizes Summer School and Sustainability Education days in collaboration with Green Office. Working for Careers Services, Joanna provides academic support for projects and issues related to sustainability in collaboration with local SMEs and policy organizations.

Joanna is the University coordinator of Sulitest - UN initiative for knowledge development around Sustainable Development Goals for the University of Groningen
