dr. J.D. Schaab
I am Postdoctoral Fellow within Pauline Kleingeld's NWO-funded project 'Universal Moral Laws: A New Approach to Kant and Kantian Ethics’. My research is concerned with ethical theory, branches out into normative ethics and political philosophy, and focuses on Kantian approaches.
Before moving to Groningen, I was a Teaching Fellow in the Philosophy Department at UCL. I received my PhD from the St Andrews/Stirling Philosophy Graduate Programme (SASP). My doctoral dissertation is titled "Kantian Constructivism: A Restatement". It was supervised by Jens Timmermann and Ben Sachs, and examined by Stephen Darwall and Rowan Cruft. During my doctoral studies, I spent some time at Yale University and Humboldt University of Berlin, to work with Stephen Darwall and Thomas Schmidt, respectively. Before starting my PhD, I completed an MLitt in Philosophy (with distinction) at SASP and a BA in Philosophy & Economics at the University of Bayreuth.
