Since 1989, Jaap is professor of accountancy at the University of Groningen (part-time), currently emeritus professor of corporate governance. Jaap was chairman of the accountancy department.

- fight against corruption.

Extracurricular activities

In the past, Jaap held various positions within the Royal NIVRA, including a member of the general board and a member of the board for professional issues. Jaap was editor-secretary of the Monthly Journal for Accountancy and Business Economics (MAB). He made a study trip through the United States at the invitation of the Atlantic Exchange Program. Was chairman of the corporate governance working group of the Fédération des Experts Comptables Européens (FEE).

Jaap is currently a member of the Supervisory Board of Bornet Groep Rotterdam B.V., board member of the Society and Safety Foundation, board member of the globetrotter Foundation and Central Bank Governance Advisor at IMF. Jaap is also a confidential advisor to the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) and De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB).
