prof. dr. H.J. Paul
The chair in secularization studies aims to make some contribution to a better understanding of how churches can define, represent, and respond to what is known as ‘secularization’. To that end, it addresses such questions as:
- How have grand narratives of secularization informed the self-understanding of Christian communities in the past two centuries?
- To what extent do secularization stories serve as narrative templates for life stories of both church members and church leavers?
- What sort of Christian language about time, history, community, and selfhood would enable churches to respond in hope and faith to membership decline?
Information on projects and publications related to the chair can be found under 'projects' and 'curriculum vitae', respectively.
