The influence of education in logical reasoning on reasoning skills.
Logical reasoning as a new domain in the Mathematics-C curriculum in the upper levels of pre-university education (in Dutch: vwo).
The new Mathematics-C curriculum in the upper levels of pre-university education in the Netherlands has a new domain: 'logical reasoning'. The aim of this domain is, among others, to improve reasoning skills of students outside the field of mathematics. In this study, an intervention will be designed, which measures the reasoning skills of students and the development of these skills in formal and informal situations. The intervention consists of an equivalent pre- and posttest and a specially designed teaching plan. The research design is quasi-experimental. Besides this, the methods of reasoning used by students will be analysed through think-aloud sessions for a more detailed view of the results.
