Charis A. van den Berg LL.M. (1987) is a Ph.D. candidate in Law and Economics at the Faculty of Law of the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. She completed the LL.B. program in International and European Law with excellent results. She was then admitted to the highly selective two-year master program in legal research “Effectiveness of Legal Arrangements” (LL.M.), at the University of Groningen, specializing in International and European Law. During the Master’s program, she visited McGill University in Montreal, Canada, as an exchange student. For several years during her studies, she has been a researcher at the department of legal theory and political science. Since May 2012, she is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Groningen. Her research is on “ Linking International Emissions Trading Schemes: A Functional Comparative Law and Transaction Cost Economics Approach“, thereby focusing on linking European (EU ETS and Swiss ETS) with North-American emission trading schemes (RGGI, MGGA and WCI).
