prof. dr. A.P. (Ab) Grootjans
Professor Grootjans expertise is on ecohydrological approaches to nature conservation and restoration ecology. This research is carried out on the landscape scale but also on the habitat scale. Recent research is on or less natural mires in various countries and continents. The focus is on relationships of wet ecosystems with the hydrological cycle on the landscape level. Research areas are coastal wetlands in The Netherlands, England, South Africa and West-Australia. The focus is on establishment of restoration perspectives of damaged wetland and peatlands and monitoring long-term results of restoration projects. The hydrological functioning of peatlands and adaptations of peatland species have been studied in Poland, Slovakia, Latvia, South-Africa, Tierra del Fuego (Argentina) and The Netherlands.
