prof. dr. A.J.J.M. Ruijssenaars
After my graduation in 1976 as Master in Special Education from Radboud University (formerly Catholic University of Nijmegen), I finished my PhD thesis in 1984 on learning potential and learning potential assessment. At the same time I worked as an educational psychologist in special education for children with learning disabilities and for children with cerebral palsy. I was appointed as a professor in 1987 at the University of Leuven, followed in 1993 by an appointment as a full professor at the Department of Special Education, Leiden University, and in 2004 by the appointment in Groningen in the domain of persons with profound multiple disabilities (since 2016 as a honorary professor).
Current research interests
Within the programme ‘Developmental and Behavioural Disorders in Education and Care: Assessment and Intervention’, my main interest is in research on profound intellectual and mutliple disabilities and on congenital deafblindness.
