Gagarin in Groningen

19 October - 26 October 2011

This year, 2011, it is fifty years ago that Yuri Gagarin was the first human to journey into space. The event is celebrated in Russia with, among other things, a travelling exhibition. This exhibition by the Jesenin Museum in Moscow was already on view in the United States, China, India, Egypt and in Europe and has now come to the University Museum in Groningen to commemorates this special event.

The exhibition is interesting for everyone who is interested in Russian history, culture and science as well as spaceflight technology. Some rare documents, objects and films that depict the dream of the 'first human in space' are on display. At the same time visitors can also visit the exhibition Beyond the Stars.

The Gagarin in Groningen exhibition is organised in cooperation with the Centre for Russian Studies  of the University of Groningen and with support of Gasunie.
