Throughout the University of Groningen one can find portraits of professors. The University of Groningen has collected portraits of her scholars since 1614.  Especially the University's central building (the 'Academiegebouw') is richly provided with stately paintings of professors in gowns. These portraits have been painted according to strict standards: professors are depicted in robes and the paintings must have a prticular size. Currently 272 portraits of professors are hanging in the Senate Chamber and in the Faculty rooms of the 'Academiegebouw'.

This exhibition focuses both on special portrayals of professors and on portraits made with other techniques. Most items have never been exhibited before.
