Jetses's view on Groningen around 1880

Ma-thesis and internship History for Cornelis Jetses Foundation & National Museum for Education

The Science Shop Language, Culture and Communication performed a historical research requested by the Cornelis Jetses Foundation and the National Museum of Education.

Cornelis Jetses and Groningen

Cornelis Jetses was an illustrator, who worked for an educational publisher. His drawings were widely used in the Netherlands. Not a lot of people know he spend a poor childhood in Groningen. The Cornelis Jetses Stichting was in possession of a notebook in which Jetses writes about his childhood memories of Groningen. This notebook was the start of this project.

Ma-thesis and internship lead to book and exhibition

History student Bob Verschoor studied the notebook and the archives for his masterthesis and for his internship he set up an exposition in the Northern Maritime Museum in Groningen, that also specialises in local history. The masterthesis was published as a book by Profiel publishers.
