The added value of VR

As an example of the added value of an interactive VR visualisation over "normal" static 2d and 3d presentation, the HPC&V visualised a complex industrial installation for gas treatment of the Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappaij (NAM) in the Reality Cube.

The installation was divided in layers, which could be selected with an user interface. The frame rate of the application, often the bottleneck in complex visualisations, could be maintained because of the layer approach. A user can move through the installation and ask such questions as "can I reach this tap?".

The reaction of the NAM personnal were positive.

This application used the VRMLviewer of the HPC&V.
