Supervising thesis students
For many instructors supervising individual students is one of the most inspiring forms of teaching. However, this may come with its own set of problems and challenges, and often requires a unique skill set and approach. In this workshop, you will focus on your role as a supervisor to individual students. You will learn how to tailor your duties as a supervisor to the needs of your students and their thesis or project. While grounded in a theoretical framework, there is ample opportunity to share and discuss experiences with your fellow participants and the course leader.

This workshop covers the following questions:
- What is expected of you as a supervisor?
- How can you structure your supervision process?
- How do you get the most out of your time with the student?
- How do you determine your responsibility in relation to the responsibility of the student?
- How do you make your expectations match those of the student?
- How do you deal with difficult situations?
Upcon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Recognize different supervision roles;
- Recognize different phases in supervision;
- Determine how far supervision should go;
- Improve the effectiveness of your supervision;
- Solve supervision problems.
