The talk would introduce the different aspects of the research being carried out at the Magnetic Nanostructures Laboratory of the Physics Department, Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan. After a brief introduction to our group and the available facilities, we shall introduce the themes we have been pursuing in recent years. These include the areas of nanoparticle and nanowire magnetism, dilute magnetic semiconductors, half metallic ferromagnetism and preliminary work on multiferroic systems. Nanoparticle magnetism will be discussed with reference to the core-shell model and its manifestations in the exchange bias and low temperature magnetic anomalies. Recent results on the magnetic and transport measurements in some half metallic systems would be presented including efforts to stabilize Cr doped full Heusler alloys. The work on multiferroic nanoparticles will be discussed with reference to the effects of particle size and oxygen deficiencies in BiFeO3 .
