Starting from a brief introduction of Waseda university and the research strategy of my laboratory there, I would talk about our recent results of multi-ferroic hexagonal YbFeO3 (h-YbFeO3) films. YbFeO3 thin films deposited on YSZ substrate belongs to hexagonal system as its stabilized form, and exhibits ferrimagnetism at low temperatures, and ferroelectricity below 350 K. We obtain these evidences using SQUID, dielectric measurements, SHG microscopic observations, X-ray dilatometric measurements and TEM observations. In addition, a possibility of new ferroelectric phases with an electronic origin induced by the magnetic ordering is discussed based upon SHG and D-E hysteresis measurements.
