The formation of free charge carriers in organic photovoltaic devices is mediated by a hot charge-transfer state, possessing excess vibrational energy. Currently, there is no quantitative experiment showing how much this vibrational energy facilitates the photocurrent generation.
In this talk I will present a novel experimental technique - optically-manipulated photocurrent spectroscopy. This experimental approach allowed us to address selectively the charge-transfer state dynamics and, thereby, to elucidate the contributions of surplus vibrational energy to the photocurrent generation in various organic photovoltaic devices.
