It has proven experimentally challenging to determine the electrical conductance of an individual molecule between metal electrodes. And once a certain value is reproducibly detected, it is often unclear which configuration is responsible for it. The size of molecules, namely, do not easily allow for additional information to be obtained. In my talk I will show how the conductance alone can sometimes already be enough to fully reconstruct the configuration of the molecule in the contact. Furthermore, I will also show additional experiments involving mechanical break junction and scanning probe techniques that help elucidating the structure for more complex situations.
