Design of the molecular components is of particular importance in allowing for a better control of recognition events, which in turn leads to a more efficient electronic response in bottom-up assembled functional nanoscale architectures. The work presented in this seminar aims to give a contribution to better understand the parameters to be taken into account in order to achieve a more efficient shuttling of a crown ether component in two-station [2]rotaxanes, based on viologen and crown ether thread-like species both in solution and when adsorbed at the surface of a titanium dioxide nanoparticle .
