By folding plastic solar cells into a V-shaped geometry, multiple reflection of light can be used to extend the path of light, leading to strongly enhanced absorption. Reflective tandem cell exploiting one or two different conjugated polyfluorenes blended with fullerenes as the active layers are demonstrated and characterized. An improvement of the overall solar light absorption is demonstrated, well correlating with the sum of the absorbing materials. We also compare the reflective tandem solar cells with standard stacked tandem solar cells, in series connection where the condition of current balancing by subcells is imperative, through optical simulations. For stacking tandems, transparent electrodes are necessary and we demonstrate one possible implementation.
