Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES), Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED) and Scanning Tunneling Microcopy (STM) were used to study the growth and oxidation of aluminum on Ag(111). We show that the oxidation at RT of one aluminum ML is very rapid, complete and self limited. Using Loss Energy Electron Spectroscopy (EELS) we measured the oxide band gap close to 7 eV.
STM results reveal that oxide wets substrate and that interactions between oxide and substrate are really weak.
