Materials with coexistence of magnetic and electric ordering are a topic of great current interest because of their potential to exhibit unusually pronounced magnetoelectric effects, that is, interactions between magnetic and electric properties. I will review different manifestations of magnetoelectric interactions in multiply ordered ferroics that were observed by nonlinear laser-optical techniques. Along with this I will introduce a spontaneous alignment of magnetic vortices termed ferrotoroidicity as fourth form of ferroic ordering with intrinsic magnetoelectric correlations.
