Poly(-p-phenylene-ethynylene)-alt-poly(-p-phenylene-vinylene)s (PPE-PPVs) combine the interesting intrinsic properties of both poly(-p-phenylene-ethynylene) (PPE) and poly(-p-phenylene-vinylene) (PPV) into single polymeric backbone, in addition to novel structure-specific properties. For solubility purposes, alkoxy side groups are grafted laterally to the conjugated backbone. Beyond the solubility function, the side groups contribute to dramatic changes in the optical, electronic and transport properties in the primary molecular structure as well as in the supramolecular arrangement of the polymers. This will be subject of the presentation, whereby the main focus will be directed on four-fold substituted PPE-PPVs.
