AbstractThe strategy of DSM for the years up to 2010 (Vision 2010) will be explained. This is built on three pillars: innovation, increased presence in emerging economies and operational excellence. For innovation DSM will intensify 11 existing innovation programmes but in addition DSM has defined 4 emerging business areas (EBA's) which the company wants to enter: Biomedical Materials, Specialty Packaging, Personalized Nutrition and White Biotechnology. The choice of these EBA's is based on global societal trends and technology trends. Especially the convergence of nanotechnology and biotechnology is seen as a driving force from the technology side. The anticipated growth will be realized via a system of Open Innovation, in which joint developments, licensing in, venturing and acquisition will play an important role.
