AbstractThe presentation will focus on structural properties associated with charge ordering. High energy x-ray diffraction in combination with high electric fields has been used to investigate the dielectric breakdown in Nd1. 67Sr0.33O4 and to find out whether this breakdown is due to sliding charge stripe order. Surprisingly, the charge stripe order stays intact upto electric fields above the threshold field, indicating robust charge order. The relation between pinning potential and charge localization has been studies in more detail in the chain and ladder system Sr14Cu24O41 where lattice distortions of two different origins have been identified. One caused by the lattice parameter mismatch between the chain and ladder subsystems and one caused by charge localization at low temperatures. The relation between these distortions will be discussed.
