The lecture will give an overview of our works in the field of block copolymers. It will cover the morphological properties of block copolymers of various topologies, as well as the use of such morphologies as precursors for nano-particles, which can form superstructures in solution. Also blends of different block copolymers will be presented, which can even lead to novel superstructures, which are not found for single block copolymers. Here we will focus on blends of diblock copolymers with linear triblock terpolymers or miktoarm star terpolymers. Due to their amphiphilic nature block copolymers can be used as compatibilizers in blends of incompatible polymers. In that case either attractive physical interactions or chemical reactions between different blend partners and the block copolymer may act as driving forces which guide the block copolymer to the interface between the blend partners. Various examples for blends based on physical interactions and chemical reactions during blending will be shown for thermoplastic, elastomeric and thermoset materials.
