Down scaling of the resolution of photo resists with the present methods (masks) will come to an end and new technologies will be needed. Recently we found a new method to make functional blocked isocyanates and we developed a novel method by using this technology to make polyrotaxanes. Polyrotaxanes are polymer threats around which a macrocycle is clipped that can move freely along the threat. We prepared polyrotaxanes that are able to switch in micro seconds when addressed by a nanosecond laser beam.
