At first I will briefly introduce the general information and scientific researches in the Fujian Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Then I will introduce the efforts that we have made on the investigations of IR NLO properties of transition metal compounds by means of first-principle computational methods. Organometallic and multi-nuclear transition-metal compounds have been simulated for the potential NLO activities. The promising results showed that some transition metal compounds are the candidates for IR NLO applications with large NLO hyperpolarizabilities and suitable IR transparency. The structure-NLO property relationships are studied as well to understand the NLO nature in metal compounds.
